Julian Furones
Where are you originally from?
I was born in León, Spain.
How and when did you start skating?
It’s a long story but it was in León.
Do you remember what kind of board it was?
It was a fishboard.
Did you start out skating in the streets or at a skatepark?
In the streets.
Who were you skating with at first?
On my own, later with my friends from León.
Were there any early influences on your skating? Who did you look up to?
I didn’t have any influences.
Do you enjoy skating in contests and demos?
No.
How could contests be improved?
I don’t know. I don’t like to be competitive.
What do you like about being able to make some money from skating?
I can travel with my board. Like Dumbo with his ears.
What’s not so cool?
Sometimes you feel under pressure, but I don’t mind. I am who I am. Hehe.
What do you think of skate videos these days?
I think I prefer the old videos because of the feeling they had that makes you feel like skating. Nowadays it’s kind of mathematics skateboarding. It’s amazing.
Do you enjoy filming video parts yourself?
Yes.
Do you skate vert ramps or bowls much?
I don’t care about that stuff; I have fun with a nice ledge on the ground.
What do you think of the skateparks in Europe?
There are some good ones, but they can’t be compared to the USA’s I think. I don’t know. I just don’t know what to say.
Should skateparks copy real street spots like MACBA or have more trannies?
I don’t know.
What do you like about etnies?
It’s a good company with great riders and nice shoes.
Which etnies shoe do you like? Why?
Faction because they are brand new. You don’t have to get used to them and I think they suit me perfectly. Now I’m trying the Arto 2 and I think they are really good.
Who do you skate with now?
I always skate with different people but at the moment I am spending a lot of time with Tom.
Who are your favorite skaters of all time?
What a question! Maradona, Madonna, Jesus and Xavi Elorriaga.
What have been the highlights of your skateboarding career?
When I start skateboarding. I think now is a good time for me.
Skateboarding professionally also means a lot of traveling! What does that mean to you?
It’s one of the best things because you get to know interesting people and you learn a lot.
What do you enjoy besides skating?
Reading, having a walk on the beach under the moonlight with my girlfriend. Hehehe.
What are your future goals?
Not getting hurt too much and having a good time. And I wish learning English someday.
