etnies & Mike Relm Giveaway!

Posted by: Brink | Wednesday, September 12, 2007

relmcontest

Born and raised in what has become known as the mecca of turntablism, San Francisco, Mike Relm played a critical role in the skratch music movement of the late 90's producing records and events. "Skratchcon 2000", which he directed, is to skratching what "A Great Day In Harlem" is to jazz. He made his debut on the silver screen on Doug Pray's award winning film "Scratch", where he was documented in a studio jam session with DJ Shadow. Relm's unmistakable style also led to a collaboration with Money Mark for music on "Along Came Polly" (Universal, 2004). Upon meeting director John Hamburg during the studio session, Relm was brought on to appear in several of the film's scenes.

Mike Relm has become a worldwide leader in the visual arts. He transforms every stage into his personal film festival, manipulating music and movies live to awestruck audiences. Never before has anyone attempted such an act, and it has been called the most brilliant thing a DJ has ever done on stage.

Mike Relm is also a good friend of etnies, so we decided to feature him as the September artist of the month and hold a little contest. Fill out the form for your chance to win an etnies and Mike Relm prize pack!

Big Willie STYLE!

Posted by: Brink | Tuesday, September 4, 2007

hammertime3

etnies International teamrider, Will Hine takes out round two of Peninsula Events Hammertime-Skate, Rock and Pole at the Corner Hotel in Richmond, Melbourne!

Once again "Miss Hammertime" was there to warm up the crowd, with her crazy upside-down antics, and all the fellas in the audience had no problem with her showing off her moves on her own vertical rail. Tricks a plenty. Everyone wanted their picture taken with her!

It was then on to the real rail tricks... the one-on-one skate contest held on a makeshift handrail in the middle of the bar.

First skaters up were Alex Gilbert and Marc Holland. Alex had two black eyes from a few nights before when he got into a fight and was put in hospital with suspected spinal injuries... but that didn't stop this little scrapper from making a gangsta crooked grind to backlip to get proceedings under way. Marc "Snapper" Holland skated well with a smooth nosegrind and backside 50-50, but he couldn't stop Alex from taking the first round and knocking him out of the tournament.

hammertime

Alex then had to battle against his long-time homie Steve McInnes. Steve and Alex were having the time of their lives with Steve making a stylish Smith grind and frontside tailslide. Alex was still in fine form and destroyed the rail with a switch 50-50, which brought the house down. Steve couldn't match it and Alex was victorious once again.

The Hammer Honey came back on stage to show some more straddle-daddle and then it was straight into the final round with, once again, Geoff Cook versus Will Hine. Both skaters started off with standard tricks and both were fairly even, then Will made a back smith. You could tell that Geoff wasn't too confident on making that trick, but he just went for it ... and what would you know, he landed it! At this stage it was make or break. Geoff, being the switch connoisseur that he is, stuck a sweet switch tail and this time it was Will who was questioning whether he could do it. With the roar of the crowd, Will made the switch tail and even he was amazed that his board was still stuck to his feet!

hammertime2

Both skaters were on S-K-A-T. The next to miss a trick was out. It was Will's set and out of nowhere he landed a delicious backside tailslide to fakie. The pressure was back on Geoff again and you could feel the tension in the pub air. With a slip and a bail it was all over; Will Hine took out the Corner Hotel Hammertime event, winning the prestigious Golden Hammer and taking home all the glory.
