- Juergen Horrwarth!
etnies European rider Juergen Horrwarth from Germany ruled the Miniramp / Bowl this past weekend in Basel, Switzerland, taking on first place, as well as a third place finish in Vert, at the European Skateboard Championships, presented by etnies and Carhartt.
With “Nature” as the theme of the contest this year, Mother Nature wasn’t so friendly with daily doses of heavy rain. However, sunny days hit the finals on Sunday as Horrwarth and Norwegian etnies European rider Freddy Austbo, who won third place, killed it in the bowl.
As usual, the queen of injuries, etniesGirl Evelien Bouilliart killed it as well and landed in second place in the Ladies division.

I was in Tampa a few days ago for Projekt Revolution when I got an email from Ronnie Creager asking me if I'd be in NYC for the final stop of Manny Mania. Unfortunately, due to prior engagements down South, and the fact that Ronnie couldn't make it to the stop in Venice a while back and I assumed he wasn't gonna hit NY either, I had to decline. Then, laying in a Tampa hotel bed, restlessness set in, perhaps it was a premonition, but I couldn't not be at Manny Mania and I immediately called the airline and booked a flight to New York for a mere $400.
Good thing I did, because Ronnie, much like at last year's Lord of the Lines at ASR, proved himself one of the true skate technicians and won the whole damn thing! Even Jason Dill showed up on a banana board and ripped shit, stylish as ever, won $20 from the SPoT dudes for a few manual bangers, and then just tossed the bill into the crowd. What a guy! Can't wait to see his next Alien Workshop video part either.
Flip in, flip out, fakie, switch regular... Ronnie threw down twice as many tricks as the other dudes in all of the three heats he skated. By the end of the day, everyone was beat, and the finals consisted of Joey Brezinski, Brandon Biebel and Creager. I know I wouldn't wanna be skating mannys against any of those heads... would you?
But at the end of the day our beloved Ronnie took home the Pimp Cup and check for Ten Grand. I asked him if he wanted to go to dinner with me, but after a day of skating in the NY heat, sore and exhausted, Ronnie texted me back telling me he could barely move. That's okay though, I can take the rejection.
Congrats, Ronnie! Stay tuned for more photos and video coming this week! In the meantime, pray that you have a good internet connection and try to watch the webcast!

Congrats to Ryan Sheckler on his fourth place finish in X Games Street. Ok, so he didn't get a medal this time, but he's killing Dew Tour for the third year in a row... can't win 'em all you know? Plus he broke his finger on a cab flip attempt during the qualifiers and still made it to the finals. The kid rips regardless. Did I mention his large entourage that includes camera crews that are filming his new reality TV show? Yes... you heard me right, but that's all I can say right now...
Arto Saari was in the house handing out Shane Cross tribute shirts. I got one and they are rad. Rune Glifberg showed up for a minute too, and right now he's on the vert ramp practicing for tomorrow's contest, so good luck, Rune! Stay tuned for more from that one tomorrow!
Big ups to Elissa Steamer on her Silver medal. Not a bad post-birthday present, huh? Don't forget that Elissa won gold the last three years, so a silver is nothing to pout about. Lauren Perkins basically broke herself and ended up on crutches before the end of the contest and Evelien Bouilliart was ripping as usual and ended up in 5th. Thanks to all the etnies crew for representing and skating so well.

Despite breaking his finger during the contest, Ryan Sheckler qualified 7th and will be skating in today's X Games finals! With switch kickflips like the one above, did you have any doubts?

etnies Girl X GAMES - PRE-GAME HYPE!

It is that time of the year again, folks. Where we all come together for another summer X Games in Los Angeles. Elissa Steamer, Evelien Bouilliart, Lauren Perkins and flow rider Holly Lyons will all be returning for another year of summer X madness. A new addition the crew is flow team rider and Dirty NJ representative, Lorena Lima, who was picked as the first alternate in the contest.
In addition to the skate gals, BMX rider Nina Buitrago will be in town to help out with some Girls Get On Board clinics on site. Rumors were also spreading about Mary Osborne and Leanne Pelosi coming down to support their teammates too! Nice one!
The first to arrive was Evelien Bouilliart, who always flies in a few days early before the first practice to adjust from Belgium time. Also learning from last year when the airline lost her bags, it gives her a few extra days just in case history repeats itself.
Ironically it did and poor Evie was bagless for the first two days of her stay. A $75 gift card from British Airways and a trip to the company store at Sole Technology headquarters quickly resolved the issue temporarily. During her etnies visit, Evelien also happened to snap a few quick Polaroids of office heads, borrow a board to tear up the rails in the STI lab, and convince a variety of people to buy her lunch and coffee. Free=good.
X GAMES STREET PRACTICE – DAY 1
As Evelien’s bags finally arrived, so did some of her fellow teammates. Everyone finally reunited at the first street course practice on Wednesday. Elissa Steamer rolled into town celebrating her birthday the day before from SF, Lorena Lima made her first trek to X Games from New Jersey with her brother (it was her birthday today, BIG 1-7), and Lauren Perkins rolled in from Huntington Beach fashionably late rockin’ a pair of sweet vintage Oakley’s. Yeah, don't mess with The Jerz. Oh, and Happy Birthday Lorena!

It is always an exciting day for the girls to see a new course, see good friends, and warm up their legs for the upcoming excitement. The girls were skating well and thankfully no injuries occurred today. Hopefully the same goes for tomorrow (knock on wood). Considering Evie's she's already skating with a broken wrist, it'll probably take a lot to bang her up. Stay tuned for more from the Games and good luck ladies!
