Conhuir's new trick!
by: Brink | Wednesday, March 28, 2007
On the way home from Phoenix Am we stopped for a pee break at a truck stop and Conhuir beat me in a game of S.K.A.T.E. with this new ballerina banger of his. He even worked it into a dork line...now that's talent.
Back from Phoenix Am! Dustin Gets Second!
by: Brink | Monday, March 26, 2007

- Dustin, his trophy & Clifford.
Wow, what a weekend at Phoenix Am!!!!! To sum it up quickly, Conhuir Lynn, Dominic Dietrich, Chris Gregson, etnies TM Clifford, Flip TM, Harry and myself all hopped in a van, drove to Phoenix, met up with Creager and Leeper and fun times were had.
I have so many photos and so much footage to sort through that my head is spinning. But stay tuned and expect little bits and pieces daily as the week progresses. There will be galleries and video footage as well.

- Dom threw some posters out of the RV for the ravenous fans.
Most importantly, etnies flow dude, Dustin Blauvelt took second place! Congrats, Dustin! You can see his bangin' run right here thanks to The Skateboard Mag. Boy, those back 360s and Barley grinds sure look sweet.

- Conhuir isn't used to the Arizona sun.
Shout outs to Dominik Dietrich and other flow dude, Chris Gregson for both making it to the semi-finals!

- The youngest kid in the van always gets tortured the most. Clifford manhandles Gregson.

- A baby with etnies shoes is a smart baby.

etnies and Chester Bennington Launch Club Tattoo Collaboration with Exclusive Art Show in NYC!
by: Brink | Wednesday, March 21, 2007

- Club Tattoo Co-founders on the Red Carpet (from left to right): Club Tattoo Model Sarah Birchfield, Thora Dowdell, Sean Dowdell, Chester Bennington and Club Tattoo Model Natilie Ramaceri
etnies and etnies Girl launched their collaboration with Club Tattoo at the etnies New York showroom last week with “LE MUSEE TATTOO,” an exclusive art show hosted by Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington. The event featured tattoo art, tattooed models, live tattooing and of course the highly anticipated etnies and etnies Girl Club Tattoo shoes that will be hitting stores in June.
etnies is rooted in skateboarding and self-expression, so collaborating with the like-minded artists at Club Tattoo allowed the brand to create a truly unique product for its consumers. Inspired by art, individuality and skateboarding, all of the shoes feature traditional tattoo artwork and are available in two vulcanized styles, the popular “Bernie” and “Fakie,” for both men and women.

- Jason Dill lurking behind Sean and Thora Dowdell
Chester Bennington founded Club Tattoo with friend Sean Dowdell in 1995. The now renowned tattoo studio has locations in Phoenix and their newest location opening in Las Vegas’ newest casino on the strip, the Cosmopolitan, in spring 2008. Club Tattoo has plans for expansion globally, and has come to be known for its artistry and professionalism.
Stay tuned for a photo gallery of LE MUSEE TATTOO, and for info on retailers that will be carrying the etnies Club Tattoo shoes in your area.

etnies & Chester Bennington Launch the Club Tattoo Collaboration Series!
by: Brink | Tuesday, March 20, 2007

etnies and etnies Girl are officially launching the Club Tattoo collaboration shoes for Fall 2007, with a little help from Linkin Park lead singer and Club Tattoo co-founder, Chester Bennington, this week.
“I’m really excited about the collaboration because it gives us a chance to blend our mutual passion for art, body and lifestyle in a unique way,” says Bennington. “etnies and Club Tattoo live what we do, love what we do and together we’ve created a perfect connection between body art and street style.”
Inspired by art, self-expression, individuality and skateboarding, all of the shoes feature traditional tattoo artwork and are available in two vulcanized styles, the etnies Bernie and Fakie, for both men and women. The shoes will be available in stores this June. Stay tuned to etnies.com for more exclusive news, info and surprises from etnies and Club Tattoo!
Chester Bennington founded Club Tattoo with friend Sean Dowdell in 1995. Club Tattoo has plans for expansion globally, and has come to be known for its artistry and professionalism.
For Guys
Both men’s styles utilize traditional Japanese art and a variation on a dragon design. The Bernie (left above) integrates a Koi fish with a dragon which represents courage, luck and strength in Eastern culture. The Fakie (right above) continues the traditional Eastern art theme with a design that depicts an ancient perspective of a mythical creature that often protects and symbolizes strength.
For Girls
The women’s Bernie (pictured on the left) has a rose design which is derived from a passion for femininity. A common choice for representing a diverse attitude regarding integrating body art into lifestyle, the art is traditional in nature, with a modern flair. The women’s Fakie (on the right) features a dove which symbolizes peace and tranquility. It is a very traditional tattoo art design with an updated twist.

More Monster Children
by: Brink | Tuesday, March 20, 2007

French Fred just wrote in a note of thanks...
Boys and girls,
Here's some pics about my exhibition in Sydney. It went a bit weird since the Ali and Shane madness that occured the night before. And of course the show wasn't named after them tragic events. But I want to say a big thank you for the help. Without the sponsors 'support, and especially etnies', the show couldn't have happened.
MERCI!

Tampa is Over!
by: Brink | Sunday, March 18, 2007

- Ronnie got tattooed "Happy Skateboarding"
Tampa Pro '07 is over and it was one of the gnarliest finals I've ever seen. Unfortunately, Ronnie didn't make it to the finals. He just missed the cut and came in 12th. Factor in the two guys who won golden tickets for qualifying first and second (Rattray and Marks) and that leaves Ronnie in 14th place overall. Still not bad at all. Nice one, Ronnie
Elissa skated on Saturday as well but didn't make the cut to the semi-finals. Oh, and I got 10th place in the TM/Industry VIP contest, in case anyone cares. Expect video and more photos soon!

- Who looks happier here? Me or Ronnie?

More Waffles!
by: Brink | Saturday, March 10, 2007

On Saturday, February 24th the Dutch etnies team went to Groningen, all the way in the north of Holland. They were accompanied by Axel Cruysberghs and Willow, both from the etnies Europe team.
When the crew arrived at the park the locals where just about to finish the new miniramp. The etnies riders loved the ramp instantly! They did find their way onto the street course as well. Everybody ripped and at the end of the afternoon all the skaters where pretty worn out.
And finally, on Sunday, February 25th the wodden waffles tour ended in Rotterdam, the skateboard capital of Holland. With nearly 175 skateboarders the place was packed! According to the locals this was one of the biggest crowds ever in Skateland.
The Dutch riders where joined once again by Axel Cruysberghs and Willow. Olivier de Hemptinne and Gregory Bomboko from etnies Belgium took the train to Rotterdam to join the etnies party. So many good skaters that day, so many insane tricks. Check out the photos and wait for the video. You’ll be amazed!
Big props to all the etnies riders who skated their asses of four weekends in a row!
Check out the Gallery and there's more info here.

Help Arto & His Mom!
by: Brink | Thursday, March 8, 2007

- Arto's friend Tim O'Connor enjoys the park!
Arto sent this note in today:
Before December 2003 there hadn’t been a single decent indoor skate park in Seinäjoki, but then we got it. In the beginning it was only 500 square meters and a miniramp. Now there’s 1000 square meters, an art gallery, a dark room, a room for spare-time activities etc.
Every year the skate park has been a home for different kinds of events with professional skateboarder guests as far away as The United States. The guests include such rarely seen stars as Arto Saari, Ali Boulala, Tim O’Connor, Ronnie Creager, Ryan Sheckler etc. A big help for all this to happen has been one of the world’s best skateboarders Arto Saari. But since day one, the true spirit, soul and the heart of the skate park has been Arto’s mum, Mervi Saari.
Mervi is an employee at the City of Seinäjoki. Now there’s a situation at hand, where Mervi is being excluded from her precious work at the skate park. Why? The reason is so simple and outrageous that the city claims that working for the skate park is not a part of Mervi’s job description.
If an employee works with more demanding things than ones job description says, shouldn’t he or she be transferred to a more demanding position at the work place? Why should a person who’s done everything such perfectly and is clearly the best for the job be replaced? Mervi is the best possible option for the work at the skate park. She supports skateboarding in her heart, knows what the world of skateboarding is all about and in a way is one of the skateboarders. Because of Mervi, Arto and a third party it would be possible to organize events where we could see the super stars of this “sport” in the future as well. If Mervi was transferred from her work with the skate park, the most important link would be gone and it would be impossible to organize these events ever again. The dream would be gone. Worst case scenario is that the skate park would be closed within few years and once again it would be cold and lonely winters in the snow for the skateboarders of Finland.
I’m sure that there’s many of you out there who have experienced what it’s like when there’s somebody running things who hasn’t got a clue what skateboarding is all about. That’s why the one who’s responsible of running things has to be some one who has a special connection for skateboarding.
This plea is for Mervi so that she could continue her precious work at the skatepark of Seinäjoki. The work she has excelled at all along.
Ali & Shane...
by: Brink | Thursday, March 8, 2007

20-year-old Shane Cross was fatally injured while riding on the back of Ali Boulala's motorcycle in Australia.
Flip has put together an online condolence book so everyone can leave comments and thoughts for Shane’s family and friends. Messages of sympathy and kind words are appreciated.
Due to the many unfounded rumors circling the skateboard world at the moment we are issuing this statement to hopefully end these rumors: "After the crash that tragically took the life of Shane Cross, Ali Boulala was put in a hospital induced coma to stabilize his condition. As of today the hospital is planning on bringing Ali out of the controlled coma on Monday 12th March. We will update the news on Ali when we have some."
We have created a comment section where fans and friends can leave messages to Ali and his family.
One Foot in the Grave Recap
by: Brink | Thursday, March 8, 2007

Fred Mortagne’s photography exhibition showed last night, at the Monster Children Gallery in Sydney, Australia
It was a nice mellow evening, with a crowd of about 50 people (combining skateboarders, art lovers, and weird street dweller’s) turning up to view Fred’s work, which featured a series of burnt photographs and fire damaged cameras. The reoccurring burnt theme was a tribute to the dying art and usage of analog photography via manual, handheld cameras, due to digital photography.
Digital photography and the technology which goes along with it, is taking over everything in this day and age - whether we embrace it or not.
Fred’s photos were amazing and quite moody, and although his theme seemed quite dark, it still managed to show a lot of passion.
His good friend Ali Boulala was also a predominant feature throughout the exhibition, along with the rest of his friends on the Flip team.
About Ali...
by: Brink | Wednesday, March 7, 2007
Ali Boulala is currently still under doctors’ watchful eyes following his motorcycle accident two days ago. His skull is fractured in two places, and doctors in Melbourne have placed him in a medically-induced coma to help him deal with the severe trauma. Although he’s stabilized, he still has a long way to go. Keep your fingers crossed and think good thoughts for Ali as well as his friends, families, and doctors.
Perhaps you'd like to take this opportunity here in the blog with your comments to talk about Ali, or Shane for that matter. Shout out some of your favorite things about the boys, your wishes for Ali and everyone involved. Go for it. All encouragement and kind words are appreciated.
TransWorld has a similar blog up and a collage of Ali photos for you to check out and reflect upon.
I'll start it off by highlighting this clip as one of my most memorable Ali moments. Courtesy of Flip. This ollie is simply massive. And you saw him try it more than once in the credits of Really Sorry. The dude has always been balls out. Period. And now, I'm going skating, with Shane and Ali in mind...

Monday Mini Madness!
by: Brink | Tuesday, March 6, 2007
Conhuir Lynn and Dominik Diedrich were at etnies yesterday and skated the STI mini ramp for a bit. Then we went for tea and I took crappy photos because my camera bugged out. Also, my apologies to Dominik for spelling his name wrong in the video clip. Between the bad photos and that, I suck today for sure!
Millencolin Open!
by: Brink | Tuesday, March 6, 2007

In Our Prayers...
by: Brink | Tuesday, March 6, 2007

TransWorld has posted this shitty news about Flip rider, Shane Cross and Ali Boulala...
Deep sympathies to the friends an familes of Shane. I will forever remember Shane dropping in on a 6 foot high wall, in TransWorld's Time To Shine, as one of the sickest things I've ever seen in a skate video. As for Ali, we're pulling for you, friend. You are one tough bastard and we know you'll be ok.
Roll forever...

ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE
by: Brink | Monday, March 5, 2007

ONE FOOT IN THE GRAVE
A PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION BY FRED MORTAGNE
AT MONSTER CHILDREN GALLERY
9TH - 16TH MARCH 2007
OPENING NIGHT THURSDAY 8TH MARCH 7.00PM
Fred Mortagne aka French Fred is a film maker and photographer currently living in Lyon, South France.
Working in skateboarding, he captures some of the most arresting images today. Fred brings a more to a photograph than capturing a skateboard trick, he captures the mood, the surroundings and the emotion that surrounds that performance.
With avant ideas on how the art of skateboarding should be documented, Fred brings a refreshing, forward-thinking and exciting voice to this culture. Also interested in the way photography is changing, in this exhibition Fred explores the demise of film in the face of cold digital technology.
Fred has shot for almost every skateboarding publication world-wide and made films and images for many other notable companies, a very important few supporting this event.

20 Boards + 20 Artists = 1 Fight!
by: Brink | Monday, March 5, 2007

20 ARTISTS, 20 BOARDS, 1 FIGHT
VANCOUVER, BC. February 14, 2007 -- 20 local artists and a skateboard manufacturer have teamed-up to create an inspiring art exhibition of 20 hand-painted boards that commemorate the Push For The Cure skaters and continues their honorable fight against breast cancer.
Last summer, Canadians were moved by Push for the Cure: the story of four young men, skateboarding a record-breaking 7,000 km across Canada to raise funds and awareness for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Push for the Cure rider, Rob Lewis summarized: “We are not doing this because someone we know has been diagnosed; we’re doing it because someone we know will be.” Rob and fellow riders Aaron Jackson, Benjamin Jordan and Carlos Koppen were joined by hundreds of Vancouver area skaters on the final 3-day stretch from Hope to Stanley Park in October 2006.
For this latest fundraising event, local board manufacturer, RAYNE, has donated 20 unique skateboards to be assigned to a local artist. The boards will be painted for an art exhibit and silent auction at the Library Square Public House (330 W Georgia St @ Hamilton) on Thursday, March 8th, at 9pm. Proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, BC/Yukon Chapter.
