Wooden Waffles Stops 5 & 6!

by: Brink | Friday, February 23, 2007

waffle5

Saturday, February 17th, we left Utrecht (in Holland) early for a three hour ride to Verviers in Belgium. All riders, including three extra Belgian etnies riders, had never been to the skatepark, but all of 'em liked the park a lot.

The park isn't big but has a good setup. Most riders liked the stairs and the rails. Coolest obstacle was by far the big hip with the flatbar on top. It was waxed like crazy in there. You you could grind faster then you would roll towards the coping.

The etnies teamriders even did a demo after four hours of skating and seriously annihilated the place. One of the best demos ever by Dutch skateboarders, no doubt!

We spent the night in Antwerp in a hotel, and after waking up skated the new outdoor park. Built by Team Pain, it's a really good park! Around 1 p.m. we left for the North Park. Since everybody was already warmed up from the session before, it didn't take long for the riders to start ripping again.

The locals where stoked to see so many tricks go down so quick, and soon they all set aside to watch the show. Stickers were given out, and goodies tossed. The kids jumped like crazy to make sure they went home with some stuff. Only bad thing was that the photo camera broke when we got in, so we only have a few photos...

Around 5pm we left, but as soon as we where in the car ready to go home, everybody opted to go back to the outdoor park. We skated there 'till 6.30pm when it was completely dark. All in all it was a really good weekend, packed with amazing skating. The last weekend is here. See you in Groningen or Rotterdam!

Check out the gallery! More info here and here!

Wooden Waffles Tour Update: Stops 3 & 4!

by: Brink | Friday, February 16, 2007

Day 3: We went to Middelburg, in the southwest corner of Holland. The Meker skatepark is one of the smallest on the world, but has a really good vibe. As soon as the riders got in, Axel Cruysberghs started the etnies show. Each trick he landed got the crowd even more hyped. Soon the rest of the riders where backing Axel. Evelien Bouilliart and Bart Naafs where both sick at home, but the other eight etnies riders took care of biz. The etnies Wooden Waffles tour was by far the busiest event in the Meker skatepark, ever. Thanks to the Meker and Forties crew for this amazing day!

Day 4: Last Sunday we went to Burnside skatepark 'n shop. With 16 years one of the oldest skateboard shops in Holland. Since the moved to their current location about five years ago they have a skatepark in the back of the shop, which makes it even more special.

The place was busy. Lots of skateboarders where there. There where even quite a bit of familiar faces from last year's STEP UP tour. The team skated through the whole park, doing tricks on all the obstacles. Hein Schellekens and Axel Crusyberghs ripped in the miniramp, and they where back-up by the etnies Europe team manager, Oli Buergin. He killed the ramp with various switch tricks! At the end of the day some visiting kids fought for their life during the product toss. A lot of them went home with a hat, belt or wallet. All in all a really good weekend. Good vibes, great skating and we're only half way the tour...

Wooden Waffles Update: Day 1 & 2!

by: Brink | Friday, February 9, 2007

ebday1
Evelien, frontside board on day 1

Day 1:

Last Saturday the etnies Wooden Waffles tour started in skatepark The Promise in Heerlen, a small city in the south of Holland.

A total of three cars, all filled with various Dutch and Belgian etnies teamriders, left from various cities in the Benelux. Around 1 pm all three vehicles made it to the skatepark.

The Promise is not really centrally located in Holland, and therefore not too many Dutch skateboarders visit the park. It is one of the best ones without any doubt. Decent obstacles, the whole place is super clean and a super friendly staff.

Some of the locals where so stoked to see the etnies riders in their local park, that the spray painted a bunch of logos all over the park. Now that's a warm welcome!

Back to the riders. From the second they came into the park they where in "shred-mode." Douwe Macare, no warm up kickflip front board on the big rail. Nelson Mosikili executed his new trick; cab back lip on the small rail. Felipe Barea nollie heeled the big drive with easy.

Bart Naafs,
31 years old and frontside nosegrinds down the small hubba. No problemo! Sidney Laturperissa skates with a big smile. This smile got even bigger after he bigspin flipped the big driveway. Forget the hour trying and the big-ass flatspots that he ended up with. Skateboarding is fun! Hein Schellekens took care of the gab in the quarterpipe. Frontside ollie over the channel to frontside lipslide.

Evelien Bouilliart, best female skateboarder in Europe, hands down. Street skills like no other chica! How about backside smith grinds down the small rail? And in between she thought some other girls how to ollie. They where stoked to see Evelien rip and they where even more stoked to get a private "how to ollie" class!

Axel Cruysberghs turned 12 a few months ago and learns a new trick easier then most of us. He flew over the snowboard jump, grinded the rail, flipped over the hips and even hit his head on the floor in between this all. Little man, big ripper!

The Dutch etnies team made another Belgian friend this day. Newly Belgian etnies rider Jonathan Franc came to Heerlen and blended in without any problems. Besides being a super humble kid he has some sick skills on his skateboard!

Rachid Addoe showed up a little later, but emptied his bag of trick in no time. He gets more consisted ever day.

Day 2:

We stayed the night in a hotel in Gent (Belgium), that was harder to find then we thaught. Sunday around noon we drove to Oostende for the next stop. Stopped at a bakery in Oostende for some bread and waffles.

Got to skatepark De Veiling around 2 pm. The park was pretty crowded, and dust was lying everywhere. The dust got airtime as most etnies riders started skating. The park is pretty simple, but it has some cool obstacles. The main obstacles were a driveway with no flatbottom. So you had to make the trick or eat shit.

Over the next few hours this obstacles was annihilated. Some riders even stepped up their tricks by doing them to flat. Like Douwe (fs flip & shifty flip), Rachid (bs flip) and Felipe (360 flip)!

All in all it was a successful weekend. Be sure to check the photo gallery!

Arto's February in Finland Contest!

by: Brink | Friday, February 2, 2007

arftofinalnd

Although he loves havin' fun in the California sun, Arto needs to go home to Finland for some much needed wintertime rest and relaxation this month—not to mention some passport renewal business. February is also "permanent midnight" season in Finland, when there's only one hour of sunlight per day. So you can bet Arto will be living the nightlife to its fullest—saunas, socializing, ladies, motorbikes, glogg and more!

We wanted to celebrate this February homecoming with Arto by giving away some of his new Arto 2 pro model etnies, as well as some stuff from Flip, Fury and Ricta!

The Grand Prize winner gets a pair of etnies Arto 2 shoes, an Arto Flip deck, Arto Fury trucks, a set of Arto Ricta wheels and more! Two Runner ups will get a pair of Arto 2 etnies, an Arto Flip deck, and a set of Ricta wheels. Not too shabby, huh? Fill out the form to enter!

etnies & Pepper Contest!

by: Brink | Friday, February 2, 2007

pepper

Kona, Hawaii's favorite sons make their long-awaited Atlantic/East West Records debut with their fourth studio album, No Shame. It's a bold artistic leap forward for the Island-born-and-bred, California-based trio. No Shame defines what Pepper is all about.

"No Shame is different from the other albums we've done because we had so much artistic freedom," says singer-guitarist Kaleo Wassman. "We had plenty of room to explore the range of possibilities of the band, which was so much fun to do."

With the band's trademark penchant for the musically unpredictable firmly in place, No Shame is indeed a tasty and rewarding blend of styles and sounds unlike anything Pepper has recorded before. The 18-track collection, which was recorded over the better part of a year, in a variety of SoCal studios with no less than 4 producers, is triumphant culmination of months of hard work that began on the road in the summer of 2005.

To celebrate the release of No Shame, etnies and Pepper are teaming up to give you some free goodies. Fill out the form for your chance to win a free pair of etnies, a Pepper CD and a Pepper T-shirt! Good luck!
