New Pro? Believe It!
by: Brink | Sunday, January 22, 2006
- Mr. Boulala
etnies would like to take this moment to proudly introduce the newest addition to our family—a man eclectic and talented enough to be added to an already well-rounded and diverse roster. A man who surfaced on the scene in the mid-90s and following in the footsteps of Tom Penny, elevated switch stance skateboarding to a new level. A man that takes on some of the most unskateable and unlikely terrain—and makes it look effortless and fun. A man who’s produced some of the most unique and entertaining video parts in skateboarding’s history. He gives new meaning to the term “flair”—leopard print is no match for him. A man who doesn’t quite ride for Baker, but is elite enough to continually be granted parts in their videos. A man who almost ollied 25 stairs in Flip’s Sorry and if it wasn’t for the reality of inertia and gravity, he might have actually landed it. He’s a man who’ll take etnies to realms it’s never seen before. He could be like every other pro if he wanted to—instead, he chooses to be Ali Boulala and we’re delighted to welcome him to the team.
“What do you get when you think of Ali? Absolute carnage and mayhem at all times—so be aware—rock and roll!”
—Arto Saari
Stay tuned to etnies.com for Ali news, interview, bio, stats, photos, team page and more.

Rune Glifberg Mini Interview
by: Brink | Thursday, January 19, 2006
We caught up with Rune Glifberg this week and decided to ask him a few questions for etnies.com...
What are you top five favorite songs of the moment?
- Any song by Ghostface Killah
- Bjork: Hyper Ballad
- Lil' Kim: Durty
- Mark Mothersbaugh: Ping Island/ Lightning Strike Rescue Op
- Magtens Korridorer: Nordhavn Station
Happy New Year! 2006 is finally here. Do you have any New Year's resolutions you'd like to share?
Same as last year, Skate and have fun.
The etnies team has added some new talent, both am and pro, in the last few months, how do you feel about the current lineup?
The team is sick right now, and I'm super psyched to be a part of it!
What's the last trick you learned?
Switch carve grind in pools. Its basic, but so much fun.
You had some injuries earlier this year around the time of the X Games? What happened? Are you back to 100% now?
I slammed and broke my ribs doing a backside 360 over the 45 foot mega jump that we had on the Boom Boom Huck Jam tour last summer. I had to skate the X Games a week later in pure agony and ended up getting some crazy NFL jock-style pain medicine injection straight into my ribcage right before the contest. Needless to say that it was a pretty unhealthy thing to do, but as they say "the show must go on, jocko." Right now I'm almost healed up but it still hurts pretty bad when I slam on the left of my body. God damn injuries!
Bored?

- Lauren Perkins handles a news guy
Last Friday at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest, some media came down to do some sort of news reporting on skateboarding and the park. Some of us were lucky enough to skate padless for a bit and etnies Girl rider, Lauren Perkins was there, doing some interviews and getting filmed for television. In case you didn't know, the girl can skate pretty darn good.

20 Years Young!
by: Brink | Monday, January 9, 2006

- 20 years young...
etnies was born in France in 1986 to meet the footwear needs of skateboarders and that very same passion and commitment to skateboarding has led to many innovations over the last 20 years. As the first skateboarder owned and operated footwear brand, accomplishments span from creating the first-ever pro model skate shoe, the Natas, to the development of the first and only biomechanics lab that creates technology that enhances rider performance and reduces skateboard injuries, the Sole Technology Institute. etnies is driven by skateboarding and has given back to the skateboarding community since its inception through building the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest, supporting skateparks all over the world, organizing and hosting contests and supporting the finest amateur and professional team riders.
“It is hard to believe that etnies is already 20 years young,” said Pierre Andre Senizergues, CEO/Owner/Skateboarder for etnies. “As a skateboarder, it is great to see how etnies has been a pioneer and innovator of the action sports community over these two decades."
Stay tuned to etnies.com throughout 2006 for plenty of surprises as we'll be celebrating all year long!
