The Story of Ronnie Creager and the Thanksgiving Baby Bird
by: Brink | Tuesday, November 29, 2005

- etnies tees are comfy!
Last week, about two days before Thanksgiving, I got this email from Mr. Creager:
I walked outside and saw what looked to be a little bird. It was. I guess it fell like 25 feet out of the tree, bounced off the roof and into the front yard. It's breathing and moving. I went to the store and got some warm bird juice and a syringe to feed him. Poor little bird wont eat or tell me how he feels. It doesn't look good! It's going to spend the night inside his home made nest made from a box and two etnies shirts. We'll see in the morning.

- R.I.P "Red"
When I emailed Ronnie back to see how the bird was doing and if he named it, here was his reply:
The bird died last night. Poor little thing. I think I may have called it "Red" I'm going to bury it today.
At least you tried Ronnie! Thanks for being a good guy. Mother Nature thanks you!
Thanksgiving In NJ
by: Brink | Tuesday, November 29, 2005

- In case you ever need to purchase some butt.
So I got to go back to the motherland of NJ for the holiday, but, since I am always thinking about fine ways to entertain you loyal etnies.com visitors, I snapped a few photos while I was on the run. Sometimes I love how absurd life is.

- Fur woman attacks!
Fur Lady: Ok this chick, maybe she was like 55 or 60, was boarding the plane in Orange County. Yes, thats California. It was like 70 something degrees out and she had a full-length fur coat on while boarding the plane and white fur boots laced over her shoulders. FREAK!
Butt Depot: I dunno, this just seems funny.

- As if "Gilbert" isn't a bad enough name.
Dr. Poon: When I saw my first Dr. Poon office here in Lake Forest, I was amazed. She is a chiropractor. Little did I know NJ had another Dr. Poon. So much poon, so little time!

Lurking the etnies Skatepark!
by: Brink | Sunday, November 27, 2005

- I'm Fat!
Sometimes I go to the skatepark. Well, lots of times. I only live a few blocks away. Anyway, last weekend I was down there skating and broke my board cuz i shred so damn hard. Actually it was on a manual to frontside shuv out. Kinda weak right? While sitting down putting a new one together, I noticed this kid with a helmet that says "I'm Fat" all over it, written in White Out I think. This dude was skinny as could be. I didn't understand. but it was funny. Here's his picture.
Oh ya! This one kid was wearing a green Petco shirt and doing frontside 1 1/2 flip to darkslides on the curb and clean double flips off the high ledge in the park. You are sick dude! Keep it up!
The etnies Family Attacks!
by: Brink | Sunday, November 27, 2005

- Callicut craze!
Standing on line waiting for a movie the other day, I saw this family... Mom, dad, four kids. All wearing etnies! I was gonna stop and say something to them, but the father was aggressively ordering insane amounts of Harry Potter tickets and I didn't want to interrupt.
Happy Thanksgiving!

A Watermelon That Skates...
by: Brink | Wednesday, November 23, 2005

- Wicked!
Lately, my new favorite thing is to lurk around Lake Forest and take pictures of random weirdness with my cameraphone. Check this Wicked Watermelon gum dispenser in Wal Mart. The watermelon skater is riding his board, which only has one kicked up end to it, backwards and doing some sort of mongo one foot thing. Maybe you guys can work on inventing a name for that trick here in the comments...
Pre-Turkey Day Team Report!
by: Brink | Tuesday, November 22, 2005

- Love!
It’s been close to a month, and a lot has gone on, so here is the latest and greatest with the etnies family of skateboarders...
You’ve read about it already here on the etnies site, but the Flip/Firm F’East Tour is going down on the East Coast as we speak. Photos, etc. have been put in the galleries, so check it out. Arto Saari, Bastien Salabanzi, Rune Glifberg, and Eric Fletcher are all participating. The tour ends Sunday the 28th, and everyone will be flying back home.

- Crew!
Besides that, here is what else has been happening:
Arto, Rune, Ryan Sheckler, Ronnie Creager, Kyle Leeper, Conhuir Lynn, and etnies Canada rider Nathan LaCoste all went out to stay at Ronnie’s house in the Phoenix area November 5–13. The mission was simple. Skate!!! Well, there was also one other mission of the trip, which was to do a signing with Industrial Rideshop, at their Desert Ridge location. Nine days in Arizona can create quite a few stories, and obviously these all can’t be printed here now, so the highlights are what we’ll focus on.
The crew headed out on the 5th, and met up with Matt Price (photographer from The Skateboard Mag) and Mike Manzoori (etnies filmer extraordinaire) to shoot photos, film, sign autographs, and have a good time in general (this is very possibly at Ronnie’s house!). So, the four missions were:

- More signing!
- Shoot photos. After leaving, I think Matt said he got somewhere between 35 and 40 skate photos. That is a success, and you can likely count on seeing a bunch of them in an article in The Skateboard Mag in a few months. That’s just the skate photos. 100’s of random photos came of the trip as well.
- Film. Well, Manzoori was there capturing all the stuff Matt shot, so footage was collected as well. It must also be mentioned that random bits of footage was collected, some pretty hilarious shit.
- Sign autographs. Industrial Rideshop hosted the etnies team on Thursday, November 10 at their Desert Ridge location. This was a bit of a 50/60 situation as the security were complete assholes. The signing was scheduled from 6 to 8 pm (we showed up at 6:30, sorry!), and they wouldn’t let us go past 7:30! So half the kids that showed up didn’t even get an autograph. But, thanks to the quick thinking of Travis at Industrial, we decided to head to the Paradise Valley skatepark for a sort of demo/random team approach session. It seemed to work out; hopefully the kids weren’t too disappointed. Again, more lame security guards in this world with something to prove! Thanks to Industrial for having us out!
- Have a good time in general. Of course, when you are on a trip, plenty of good times are had. That’s expected. But when you are staying at Ronnie Creager’s Desert Oasis, the good times will flow more than normally expected. We’ll just leave it at pool, J-smoothi (Jacuzzi), Arto’s birthday and billiards.

- Happy Birthday Arto!
All in all, the trip to Phoenix was a complete success. Thanks to everyone involved for kicking ass!
The last few weeks of Arto’s life has basically been mentioned above. The Phoenix trip, the current Flip tour, and celebrating his 24th birthday November 9th. Oh yeah, one more thing. Apparently he has the cover of the newest Skateboard Mag, issue 22. We haven’t seen it yet, but be sure to check back over the next couple days, as it should land at etnies any day now. Congratulations Arto!!!!!
Bastien Salabanzi finally received his new VISA (business papers, to quote "The Dude," for non US citizens), so he is cleared to go in and out of the States as he pleases for the next few years. He arrived back in the States a few days before the Flip tour, and will be back after that to get back on the coverage mission, and to continue filming for the Flip video. Oh yeah, and last (but certainly not least), as you already read here, Bastien celebrated his 20th birthday on November 18th. The same day he flew out for the Flip tour. Happy Birthday Bastien!!!

- Conhuir Noseblunt!
Ryan Sheckler has been at home since getting back from the Arizona mission shooting photos and collecting footage. His first pro shoe with etnies drops in a couple months, and he just got us a nice photo for the ad. Wait ‘til you see it! And be sure to buy his shoes when they come out. Amazing they are!
Ronnie Creager stayed out in AZ for a week after everyone left. Probably to clean up the place, but also to take care of some unfinished skateboarding business. He is now back in The OC, focused on getting photos. No travel or contests for a while, so photo mission is the mission.

- Kyle signs another...
Kyle Leeper was in Texas over the weekend doing a couple autograph signings for Quiksilver. Keep your eyes peeled for his team page to launch real soon. He’ll also be working on ad photos for etnies, as his first etnies ad is due real soon.
Rune Glifberg was out in AZ for the last half of the Phoenix mission, and he didn’t waste anytime getting photos. The first day he got a bunch of stuff in a pretty gnarly pool. Then he spent some time skating the Encinitas YMCA down in San Diego, and is currently on the Flip tour on the East Coast. When he returns, it will be back to the mission of collecting more photos. Pretty sure he has a trip planned to Dubai in December.

- Rune!
Stefan Janoski has been up in Sacramento the last few weeks skating. Oliver Barton (TWS photographer) was up there for a week or so trying to finish off his interview for TransWorld. Just wait for this one, should be amazing!
Conhuir Lynn is back in Belfast, Ireland. He flew back the day after the AZ trip to spend the holidays with his family before a hectic travel schedule starting in January with the Tampa Am contest at the Skatepark of Tampa. Even though the weather is complete shit over there at the moment, he plans to hook up with Sidewalk magazine and Document magazine to try and get some UK coverage.

- Boo Boo
Check out all the photos from this Team Report in the Gallery!
Quite the report. That's all for now! More to come real soon!
Final Game Of SKATE
by: Brink | Tuesday, November 22, 2005

- This definately isn't a photo of a hot chick wearing yellow fishnets dancing on a pole showing off her butt...
This coming Saturday, November 26, we will hold the last Game of SKATE of 2005 right here in the etnies parking lot, just above the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest. Space is limited, but you can sign up early at Focus Board Shop right across the street.
Everything will kick off at 12:00 noon, so make sure you arrive on time. If you snooze, you lose. We’ll be giving away prizes to the top 16 skaters, and top dogs will head home with new pairs of shoes and more. There are no age groups or categories, and the event is not open to pros, duh! So come have fun and throw down some flatground. See you there!
Location: etnies 20161 Windrow DR (in the rear), Lake Forest, CA 92630
From I-5, exit Lake Forest Dr, go East for five miles, turn right on Rancho, turn left on Windrow, turn left in the cul-de-sac, then go to the rear of 20161. Here's map.

by: Brink | Monday, November 21, 2005

- Bastien signs for a fan
The F'East tour kicked off with its first demo last Saturday, November 19, in Raleigh, NC at Project 58 skatepark. Arto, Bastien, Rune and Eric Fletcher did their thing while 600 kids made their way into park, another 150-200 watched from a mega-screen in the lobby and about 150 that were turned away at the door, but not without some free goods. Sorry kids, get their sooner next time. See you at the next stop! Check out the Photo Gallery!

NYC Color/etnies Party Follow Up!
by: Brink | Wednesday, November 9, 2005

- O'Dell and Sandro!
A letter from, Sandro, the Editor of Color magazine:
Beloved supporters,
First I have to send out a huge thank you to etnies shoes, We clothing, and the city of New York who totally astonished us with your generosity and support. the NYC party went off without a hitch with an overwhelming 1000 RSVP's received. Guests were greeted at the door at the etnies table where they received a gift bag and five random partygoers received an etnies backpack stuffed with an etnies gift certificate for a free pair of shoes. ironically, over a month of work and promotion was soaked up by 100 guests within 10 minutes before 10 pm when Babysteps started off the video premiere, followed by Green Apple's Modern Love. both these videos and the etnies footy that followed for the remainder of the night were projected on the upper wall between the first and second level of the club--providing maximum viewing from both levels.

- Hipsters!
The open bar made for some very pleased New Yorkers from all social groups. A lot of fashion-forward yankees, artists/photographers, skateboarders and industry heads all cheersing their glasses in celebration of skateboard culture. From the Left to the Right coast. We thank you for helping us spead the message of Color!

Walking In Lake Forest...
by: Brink | Tuesday, November 8, 2005

- No fartboarding
Just walking around Lake Forest, CA on an average day with my cameraphone I stumbled across this sign...I think its supposed to be a NO SKATEBORDING sign. But I am not sure what the designer was thinking. It looks more like a Don't take a crap or fart while you are skateboarding sign. Or perhaps a Don't drag your foot while you're skateboarding sign. Whatever the case may be, the idiot who drew it is a moron.
Secondly, I found this skateboard shoe (from another company) on a pile of horse poo right near the etnies skatepark. Being that etnies are so rad and all, I guess kids just put other shoes in poop if they see them lying around because etnies rule and other shoes are only worthy of poo. Way to go!

- Doodie

Rune has been chillin' in San Diego skating the Encinitas YMCA.
Sheckler was in Las Vegas this week for a car show, his car, which he can't legally drive without an adult (until his 16th birthday on December 30) won "best car" of the show. Congrats to Ryan and his vehicle.

- Bass!
Editor's note: while walking thru the halls here at etnies today, I heard some of the loudest bass ever coming from outside intot he offices. i walked out only to find Sheck, Conhuir and Nathan skating in the parking lot with Sheck's trunk open, with bass blasting at mind-shearing volumes. I didn't have my camera to take pix. Sorry. -Brink
Ronnie Creager went to AZ earlier this week to prepare for the carnage that will go down at his house. The whole crew is staying at his house in Phoenix.
And that's it for now. Enjoi the weekend!

Brian Patch Update!!
by: Brink | Wednesday, November 2, 2005

- The dime isn't in Brian's foot, but the rest of the stuff is.

- Gnar!
For those of you who may have forgotten, Brian Patch shattered his foot warming up for Big Air on the Mega Ramp at the X Games this summer.
He just went under the knife and wrote us a little letter to give us the scoop:
Hello,
Here's the deal! The surgery went well (as far as I know!) I've got a follow up appointment tomorrow. The pain afterwards wasn't nearly as bad this time because they didn't grind bone spurs out of my ankle!

- Brian and Pierre celebrate Halloween
The Doc found a couple extra fractures that didn't show on the x-rays that he had to deal with. I've got some wire in there now! I just can't walk on it for at least six weeks or til the Doc says it's ok! I'm doing it right this time so no need to tell me to stay off it!
I was on crutches, up and around right away. Well after I slept all Monday and half of Tuesday So all is good! The incision is bigger and the plate is longer than the original. The pic was taken a few days after the surgery. I've gotten the swelling to go down quite a bit!

- These ladies will make any injured man feel a lot better
Halloween has been a blast! Going from a week on a couch to partying in a Fat Bastard (Austin Powers) costume with tons of people was a good! Pierre, the president of etnies, threw a great party in Laguna and I needed to get out! The pictures speak for themselves!
Angela got me a autographed copy of the new Playboy to help with the healing!

- Pre-surgery turkey tow
Here's my Saturn commercial on it in case you missed it on TV. And keep an eye out for me hosting Fuel TV's Thankgiving Turkey Bowl Marathon!
