Post GvR Team Report!
by: Brink | Thursday, October 27, 2005

- Creager and Cole won guitars!
The second-annual etnies GvR contest went down this weekend (as I’m sure you read all about here on the etnies site), and what a contest it was! I’ll spare more and more details about the event, but congratulations to the goofy-footed etnies riders (Ronnie Creager, Kyle Leeper, and Eric Fletcher), since Goofy won, and also congrats to Arto Saari and Ryan Sheckler for their kick-ass results (Arto got third and Ryan fourth for the Regular team)! Ronnie deserves some congrats to since he was the MVP for the Goofys! Conhuir Lynn and etnies Canada rider Nathan LaCoste were also in attendance on Saturday, but didn’t qualify for the team format contest on Sunday and went street skating instead.
Now that the hectic weekend is over, here is what the team will be up to…

- FS Flip. he landed it too...
Arto is in Huntington Beach skating everyday. This weekend, however, he is headed up to Northern California for a Quiksilver photo shoot. After that, it’s right back down to Southern California for a night, before heading out on an etnies trip to Arizona to shoot photos and film (Ronnie, Ryan, Kyle, Conhuir, and Nathan will all be on this trip as well).
Bastien Salabanzi is in France at the moment…this past Monday, October 24, he received his new work VISA (work papers for the US), so he is set to come back, but not until November 14, however, just in time for the Flip US tour (more details about that in the future). While he was waiting for the VISA, he stayed busy skating in Paris and visiting with his family. He’ll be doing the same until he returns in November.

- Ronnie behind the lens
Ronnie took a couple days to chill since he had a hectic weekend of skating at the GvR contest. He basically skated three full days straight, enough to wear out even a 14-year old. Next week he’ll be headed out to Phoenix to prepare for the rest of the etnies team’s arrival…everyone’s staying at his house, so preparation is necessary!
Ryan is busy skating everyday trying to finish off a Thrasher interview and also working on getting a photo for his shoe release ad…yup, the shoe comes out early next year, so save your cash!

- Sheck signs for the ladies
Kyle Leeper is getting ready to head up to Sacramento to shoot photos for TransWorld, and to do some filming as well. He flies down to Phoenix on November 6, straight from Sacramento, to meet up with the crew. We are working on his Team Page and etnies interview right now, sit tight.
Rune Glifberg just got back from Manchester, England where he skated in the LG Championships contest. He qualified second, but when it came to finals, he ended up in fourth either way, congratulations Rune! He is now back in San Diego, and looking forward to some time to chill at home. He did so much over the summer and fall, that he needs a break from all the traveling.
Stefan Janoski is in Las Vegas at the moment, fresh off his trip to Spain. He’ll be back in Sacramento in a few days awaiting Kyle and the TransWorld boys, so he can finish off his TransWorld interview. He’ll be in Sacto for a while before heading out on another mission real soon. Check the new Skateboarder for a Habitat tour article with Stefan.

- Conhuir!
Conhuir Lynn is still in the States. He’ll be here for the next month or so, shooting photos and filming, going to AZ, and just being Conhuir Lynn (you’d have to know him to get that one). He’ll be skating in the Damn Am Finals this weekend at Volcom in Costa Mesa, CA. See you next time!

by: Brink | Sunday, October 23, 2005

Further congrats go to Chris Cole for winning the Regular-footed MVP award and his 18th guitar. Stay tuned in the coming days for more highlights, tons of photos, and much more.

Sole Technology R&D Building
26921 Fuerte Drive
Lake Forest, CA 92630
Enjoy food, drinks, live music and artwork by featured European artists:
Nicolas Thomas
Long before Nicolas ever picked up a paintbrush, he was riding a skateboard and snowboard. He is most known for his use of vivid color, numerous materials and various techniques. His ubiquitous use of fine lines in his paintings gives his figures a fragmented look, as if trapped within an imaginary world.
Léonard Accorsi
From drawings to abstract paintings, the work of this impassioned artist is the result of a tragic-comic view of the world. Léo possesses a unique vision that is represented in his work; black yet not dark, opinionated yet unbiased, the work of this snowboarder is an open door into the imagination of daily life.
Gallery hours:
Friday, Oct. 21–Saturday, Oct. 22: 10am-7pm (during etnies GvR contest)
Sunday, Oct. 23: 10am-3pm

Sheckler Is Athlete of the Year!
by: Brink | Monday, October 17, 2005

- Back tail.

- Happy Sheck
One hell of a big congrats goes out to Ryan Sheckler for winning the overall Skateboard Park event of the Dew Action Sports Tour (which you already knew) and then being named the Dew's Athlete of the Year, flooring all the other Moto, BMX and Skate dudes in the series. Ryan is also the youngest athlete everrrrr to win the Dew Tour. Congrats Ryan, enjoy the ridiculous amount of cash and the truck you won!
A Quick Dew Wrapup!
by: Brink | Monday, October 17, 2005
In other Orlando Dew Tour news, Sheckler ended up third and Creager was right behind him in fourth place for the Park event. Rune took fifth in Vert. Unless you can go out there and do better, none of this is to be frowned upon. Congrats boys! You've done etnies well!

Rune's Birthday, Dew Tour, Team Report, More!
by: Brink | Thursday, October 13, 2005
Again, Happy Birthday to Rune Glifberg, who celebrated another year on this planet we call Earth last Friday, October 7th. Arto came over and celebrated, as well as a bunch of Rune’s friends, and of course his family. Check out the cake! Rune just made the trek out to Orlando, Florida for the final Dew Series contest of the year. This is your last chance to move up in the rankings and win more money…Rune is currently in 8th place overall, and could definitely move up. Next week we’ll have updates on how he does. Good luck Rune!
Ryan Sheckler and Ronnie Creager are also headed out to Orlando for the Dew contest. Ryan, as you may know, already won the street series, and locked up $75,000 and a new Toyota truck; but he has a chance to win a bonus $25,000 if he finishes with the highest points between skate, BMX, and moto. I think he’ll pull it off, good luck Ryan! Either way, congrats on winning the street series! Ronnie is currently in 11th place overall, but like Rune, can also move up in the overall standings with a good result over the weekend. He could potentially move up as high as 4th, which would give him a nice chunk of change for the series. Good luck to Ronnie as well!
Arto Saari is in Arizona filming and shooting photos. He’ll be out there for a bit before coming back next week for the etnies GvR contest…more updates on GvR and who from the team will be in attendance next week…stay tuned.
Bastien Salabanzi is in France anxiously awaiting renewal of his work documents for the States. Every three years, non-Americans have to renew their work documents so they can work (skate) here in the States. Hopefully he’ll get it soon, ‘cuz the Goofy vs. Regular contest is in two weekends, and he is the defending champ!
Kyle Leeper and Stefan Janoski are in Spain filming and shooting photos with TransWorld. They went out there a week ago; Kyle is coming back next week in time for the GvR contest, and Stefan will be staying a little longer to finish work on his interview. Keep your eyes peeled for an article in an upcoming issue, and look for Kyle’s team page here on the etnies site to be posted sometime very soon. Some of the photos from this trip will probably be up on Kyle’s page as well.
Conhuir Lynn has been back in Ireland since the etnies East Coast Canadia tour. He is flying out to California next Thursday to stay for a month. He is anxious as the weather is starting to turn sour in Belfast.
Check back next week as results from this weekend’s Dew Series contest will be posted, news about the GvR contest will be posted, and a bunch of other shit.

etnies European Open In Lido di Ostia!
by: Brink | Friday, October 7, 2005
It is done! The last stop of the etnies European Open series went off--except that the weather gods were hating on us.
Thomas Weber, a young German fella took first place in the qualifiers.
The award for the Best Trick went straight to Daniel Cardone from Italy, who frontside flipped himself far above the high wallride.
Sunday started with pouring rain and since and with no end in sight, the decision was made to take the results of the qualification as the final result. Even more unfortunately, the Girls Jam had to be cancelled as well. Sorry ladies. We owe you one.
All in all, it was another great etnies European Open in Rome with an amazing crowd, good skating, great atmosphere, and we have to thank the staff of The Spot Skatepark in Rome for all their support to make this contest such a great success. Congrats to the winner. See you next year!
-
Results:
- Thomas Weber, GER
- Tommy Brandele, GER
- Chris Pfanner, AUS
-
Best Trick:
- Daniel Cardone, ITA ( éS), HUGE Frontside Flip above the wallride.
-
Overall Winner of the etnies European Open Series 2005:
- Chris Pfanner, AUS ( Men)
- Sabrina Göggel, GER ( Girls)
