Who Needs Runup Anymore?
by: Brink | Thursday, June 30, 2005
Normally, when I attempt handrails in excess of 20 stairs, I dont push either. I'm actually working on doing it without rolling as well. Stationary ollies to handrails are the next big thing.
Creager Takes First!

Goin for the Gusto!
by: Brink | Monday, June 27, 2005

- Extreme!
Remember when that kid tried to ollie the Leap of Faith gap and shattered his leg after Jamie Thomas tried it for his part in the first Zero video? Kids are getting ruthless these days. I bet by now, if it was still skateable, someone would have landed it.
And the Weiners Are!
by: Brink | Friday, June 24, 2005

- This is one of two submissions from the same kid in Portugal. He also sent the water fountain photo below on the right. Not only were these the two funniest efforts, they also were the best efforts that didn't use Photoshop. I mean, he got down to his undies and humped a statue in public for the cause. At least this kid gets out of the house.
It wasn't easy, and it took longer than we thought, but here's the winners of the etnies.com Crazy Photo Contest and some explanations as to why they were chosen. Thanks to all who entered, lots of you made us laugh. There will be plenty more contests to enter in so stay tuned. One side note: You winners are about to get some email from us with details on how to claim your prizes. If we don't hear from you in two weeks from the day we send the email, we have to pick another winner. Slacking=forfeiting!

- Submitting one photo good enough to get our attention is no simple task. But this guy sent two bangers in, hence earning himself first place and three pairs of etnies kicks. We also like that, other than skating, the only stuff on his brain is sexual and toilet-related hijinx. I wonder who drank from this fountain after the photo was shot?

- Most Photoshop entries were kinda janky, which actually makes them really funny. A "doggy front blunt" down a nine-stair rail is pretty damn sick. And hilarious to boot. Yes, the dog is wearing etnies. I think we might even sponsor him. I wonder if he landed it? Is that a skateboard or a toboggan he's riding? This effort earned a pair of etnies.

- This photo has nothing to do with skating. I'm not sure it has anything to do with anything. If it was two horses or cats mating, it sure as hell wouldn't have been as funny. It won a lot of votes because it was the randomest, funniest scenario submitted to us. Who even knew llamas rocked etnies? Homeboy only wins one pair of etnies, so he's gonna have to buy a pair if he wants to hook up both llamas.

- Once again, horribly done in Photoshop, but brilliantly primitive and downright funny. Blowing fire out of your ass while wearing Artos. Classic. One pair of etnies for you my friend, just keep them in a fire-proof area!

Another Best Trick Contest at the etnies park!
by: Brink | Friday, June 24, 2005

- Tyler Mumma, left, along with Brad Coleman, center, and another lurker.
The second of four Best Trick Contests was held on Thursday, June 23, at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest. This time, it was on the flow course.
Local ripper and park employee Tyler Mumma skated confidently and came out on top with Texas Plants over the vert-to-deck hip, tailslides and frontside airs on the vert wall, ollies over the spine, and a frontside boneless one shuffle, as well as a truly vintage 1980’s style frontside blunt.
Second place belonged to Brad Coleman, who boosted frontside airs on the vert wall, lein to tails, Miller flips, and a nice crail tap. Brad also managed to find the fastest, smoothest lines of the day.
Dustin Sheesley came in third with mellow style prevailing over 5-0s to fakie and alley oop airs over the hip. Local boy Paco and youngun’ Andrew Miller came in fourth and fifth and had lots of fun, along with the 22 contestants who skated.
There will be two more Best Trick contests in August, one on the stairs, and one on the hubbas and rails. Start training and stay tuned for more information.

by: Brink | Wednesday, June 22, 2005

- Brian Patch. Big.
The fourth annual etnies Bowlmasters went down last weekend at the the Cradle Skatepark in Brixlegg, Austria. Pool riders from all over the world show up for a piece of the pie but it was Omar Hassan who came out on top with heelflip frontside airs in the deep end and 360 judos over the hip.
Benji Galloway from South Carolina, USA earned 2nd place with frontside 360s over the spine.
3rd place went to Brian Patch from California who launched 540s over the hip and backside 360s in the deep end.

- TNT. What else needs to be said?
San Francisco's Tony Trujillo was definitely the most stylish skateboarder of the whole weekend with an endless list of tricks. 4th place and the award for Best Line.

The Morning After
by: Brink | Wednesday, June 22, 2005

- Check out the abundance of "rail etiquitte" going on in this photo.

- Lance was there!
Reports from all over the world are popping up on the web! Wether it be from Philly, California, Vancouver, Montreal, or Europe, skateboarders, without a doubt, united, skated, and stirred some s#&t up yesterday. Here are some photos from around the country and a few others of the festivities at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest. If you couldn't make it, then you missed Creager, Sheckler, Rune, Lance Mountain, free food and free stuff! We'll forgive you, just don't miss out next year. Thanks to anyone who came and celebrated with us or who picked up a board yesterday, no matter where they were, and supported the cause. Now go skate some more.

- The cops busted the Dwindle event in LA before it even got underway. I dunno...looks like a waste of a lovely, expensive tax dollar-funded skatepark to me.

- Wild in the streets!

- This is sooooo artsy!

- Raffle madness!

- The raffles makes kids neglect their gear

- This guy skated for like, 12 hours...no joke.

- Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

- Some old school flavor...
This Just In! Skateboarding Leads to Streaking!
by: Brink | Monday, June 20, 2005
This kid was skating when his friends dared him to streak through a school. Ironic that he chose the Human Growth and Development class to streak through. For the record, streaking is never NOT funny.

etnies Bowlmasters!
by: Brink | Wednesday, June 15, 2005
The last three years have proven it’s well worth a weekend in the mountains to enjoy some of the best international talent – including etnies’ own Bowl Masters Brian Patch and Oli Buergin! Riders will go after 10,000 Euros while surpassing the limits of gravity and speed even further on this year’s newly extended street course and slick new painted surface.
Presented this year by Powerade, the etnies Bowlmasters is one of the few concrete bowl events held in Europe and there couldn’t be a better location than The Cradle – one of Europe’s biggest and most renowned skateparks located in the heart of the Austrian mountains. Built in 2001, by the Dreamland crew who built the Burnside Skatepark in the United States, the park covers an 11,000 m2 (118,403 sq. ft.) area. An overview is available here.
Make sure to visit skateboardeurope for more info on contest schedule, directions, accommodations, sign-up and purchasing tickets. See you in Brixlegg!

Go Skateboarding Night! Best Trick Contest Wrapup
by: Brink | Monday, June 13, 2005
Since it is way to hot to try and go skateboarding all day in Arizona, Cowtown Skateboards decided to move it into the night. In celebration of Go Skateboarding Day, on Tuesday June, 21st they will be having a 21% OFF EVERYTHING SALE in all 3 stores throughout the day and then close early for the nights events.
At 8:00 pm Cowtown will start a free barbeque for all directly behind the downtown shop at 5024 N. Central Ave.
Shortly after we will Premiere former AZ local Shane Heyl’s new video SHAKE JUNT featuring the talents ofthe Baker team (Andrew Reynolds, Erik Ellington, Jim Greco, Spanky, Brian Herman, Jeff Lenoce and Braydon Safransky) Elissa Steamer, Mike Maldonado, Ryan Nixx, Pete Eldridge, Jon Flip, and Mike Hubert.
Cowtown's Skateboarding Scavenger Hunt will begin right after the premiere. They will be hiding vouchers for all kinds of Free Skateboarding Stuff all over the downtown area. You will get a map and details of where and how to find the stuff right after the video. First one there gets the goods. There are lots of spots and even more free product. Come check out a good skate video, eat some food, have a drink, then GO SKATEBOARDING and product hunting all over downtown Phoenix.
In the first of the Summer’s four Best Trick Contests at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest, Mike Szymborski took home top honors along with a couple pairs of shoes and some free etnies gear. The contest was held on the center box in the street course, which meant that any tricks on the euro gaps, the flat bar, the picnic table, or the center hubbas, ledges, and gaps were fair game. Mike earned first place with a frontside bluntside transfer on the flat bar and a pop-shove it lipslide on the flat bar.
Coming in second was Nick Rivera, with a kickflip over the 12 foot gap, a proper nosegrind on the flatbar and more. Third place was taken by local ripper Don Juan, with a heavy bag of tricks, and an early-grab 360 off the euro gap that the judges sweated. Jordan Small and Knoxx Fuller took fourth and fifth with long lists of tricks. The next in this series of Best Trick Contests come on Thursday, June 23rd, when the Flow Course becomes the target. In August there will be two more Best Trick Contests, one on the stairs, and one on the hubbas and rails. Stay tuned to etnies.com for more information.

Sheckler Wins Panasonic Open!
by: Brink | Monday, June 13, 2005
Congrats to Ryan Sheckler for taking first place in Park at the Dew Action Sports Tour/Panasonic Open this past weekend in Louisville Kentucky. Here's Mountain Dew's version of Ryan's run. What the hell is a "Shecklair?"
Sheckler was definitely the crowd favorite, with all the teenage girls in the stands vying for his attention. But Sheckler was focused on winning the Skate Park Final, and that's just what he did...with, probably, the run that clinched the win: a kickflip up the small gap, a kickflip 180 up the big gap, a smooth 5-0 down the down rail, a 360 over the couch, his signature Shecklair from the small quarterpipe to small bank, a backside lipslide down the down of the flat-down rail, and a backside smith on the flat of the up-flat rail. This gave him a score of 89.0 and a huge response from the crowd. “When the pressure goes up, I skate better.”
GSD Skateboarding Party at the etnies Park!
by: Brink | Friday, June 10, 2005
In celebration of Go Skateboarding Day on June 21, etnies is throwing an all-day skate party running from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest. In addition to non-stop skateboarding, the party will include free food and raffles for prizes at each session to help raise money for Grind for Life and the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest Fund. etnies will double the money the raffle raises by donating a dollar for every dollar raised.
Grind for Life is a non-profit organization founded by Mike Rogers, life-long skateboarder and cancer survivor, to provide financial assistance to cancer patients and their families when traveling long distances to doctors and hospitals. The etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest Fund exists to raise money to cover the skatepark’s operating expenses and keep it free in the future.
Skate Party Schedule and Location:
• Breakfast Session – 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Free donuts, bagels and coffee.
• Lunch Session – 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Skate off breakfast, and chomp on some free burgers.
• Afternoon Delight – 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Enjoy skating and an afternoon snack.
• Evening Session – 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
More skateboarding and a “Back to Burgers” gut-buster meal.
Location and Requrements: The etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest is located at 20028 Lake Forest Drive, between Rancho Drive and the 241 Toll Road, in Lake Forest, California.
The etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest requires skateboarders to wear pads and a helmet, and etnies will have a supply of ProTec pads and helmets available to loan to those who need them but if you don't like wearing loaner helmets, you might be better off bringing your own.
Introduced by IASC (International Association of Skateboarding Companies), Go Skateboarding Day is a day for skateboarders to forget about school or work and just skate, and for those who have never been on a skateboard, to grab a friend and join in. On the first Go Skateboarding Day last year, skateboarders held events throughout the Americas, Europe, Australia and Japan. Some of those events included backyard jams, skatepark sessions and impromptu street missions. See you there!

etnies Euro Open Krakow Results!
by: Brink | Wednesday, June 8, 2005

- Kickflip melon for first!
Seventeen-year-old etnies rider Fredrik Austbo from Norway took third place at this past weekend’s etnies European Open in Krakow, Poland. In 2004, Austbo became the first ever to win all three etnies Opens and was awarded the title of 2004’s Best Overall European Skateboarder. Will he creep from behind and take reign again this year? We'll see in Rome in September.
A completely sold-out crowd was on the edge of their seats with well-known names like etnies’ Arto Saari, UK’s Rodney Clarke, Tom Penny, Ali Boulala and many others battling it out in jam format for the prize of 10,000 euros. Of the 80 skateboarders competing in the Qualifiers, four went straight to the five-minute Superfinals - Chris Pfanner from Austria kickflip to 50/50'ed into first place ; Czech Republic’s Lukas Danek went for a frontside 180 flip transfer and took second; Fredrik Austbo was all over the street course with transfers to 5-0 and a backside lipslides for third; while Germany’s Fabian Neugebauer landed fourth.
Best Trick went to Austrian rider Manuel Margreiter after his kickflip to backside lipslide on the rail.

- etnies own Fredrik Austbo front bluntslides into 3rd
As Poland’s fourth largest city and long heralded as “the New Prague,” Krakow has become a well-established tourist destination, and truly proved to be one of the best choices for an etnies European contest. The city graciously contributed the TS Wislaw University Sport Facility’s old style basketball hall, which turned into a skateboarder’s paradise thanks to IOU ramps.

- Happy winners who are good at riding skateboards
Many thanks goes to etnies’ distributor Cool Sport, who helped make this all happen in Poland, Studio 2, our sponsors Element and Nixon, as well as our media partners Kingpin, Monster Skateboard Magazine and YOZ.
Countdown To Go Skateboarding Day!
by: Brink | Wednesday, June 1, 2005
From IASC:
Go Skateboarding Day, June 21
For one day, skateboarders will take over the world! Imagine 20 million-plus skateboarders riding at the same time.
If skateboarders have their way, that will be the scene on the first day of summer—Go Skateboarding Day. It’s a day for skateboarders to skate above all else. It’s also an opportunity for those who’ve never been on a skateboard to grab a friend and join in.
The inaugural Go Skateboarding Day this past June caught on quicker than anyone imagined. Skateboarders held events throughout the Americas, Europe, Australia and Japan. Some of those events included backyard jams, skatepark sessions and impromptu street missions.

- JAPAN!
Last year was just the beginning of the grind heard around the world. This year, Go Skateboarding Day is going to be bigger, so here are some excuses to tell your boss or teacher: “I can’t make it on Tuesday, June 21 because…”
My house is on fire
I’m going to the dentist
The dog ate my slippers
I have a doctor’s appointment
I’m going to get my nails done
My sick grandmother needs me by her side
I have a tornado to attend
My cubicle is being remodeled
Global warming beckons my name
My dog died
I have to go vote for something
Here’s the best: I’m going skateboarding. Deal with it!
Regional Go Skateboarding Day events will be posted at local skate shops.

At the height of summer, Poland’s fourth largest city throngs with tour groups, all manner of tourist tack and countless pavement cafés that seem to occupy every cobble of the main square. For the etnies European Open the University contributes their old style basketball hall and IOU provides a new streetcourse. Arto Saari, Bastien Salabanzi and Ali Boulala are expected in Poland!
Street prelims are held on Friday, qualifiers are on the scheduled on Saturday and Sunday is Final’s day. Best Trick is also on Sunday. The entry fee is 30 Euros. And everyone will be battling it out for 10 000 Euros in prize money!
