Barcelona: Day 7!

by: Brink | Friday, May 9, 2008

Okay, so after a brief hiatus, I finally got to editing some more of the Barcelona tour footage. This was day seven, and a weird day at that. Dancers, wind, parkour fanatics, a demonstration of the "Heath waddle," playgrounds and more... it can't always be 24-7 bangers, kids. Oh yeah... and then we broke in the new flow guy, Tyshaun Johnson...

etnies Shred or Die!

by: Alex | Friday, May 9, 2008

By now you all know about etniesskateboarding.com. And if not... don't admit to it. Just go there. Now.

You should also check us out on ShredorDie.com for some etnies all-videos-all-the-time action. It's like having our own channel to air whatever we want... which, according to our ranking (currently #80 most favorited), is what plenty of other people want too. So go there, enjoy our vids, give us your "shred" votes and know that you've pushed us in the right direction on the shred spectrum of awesomeness. Feel good about that.

A Rolling Perspective Gallery

by: Alex | Tuesday, May 6, 2008

The opening exhibition of A Rolling Perspective, presented by etnies and Color Magazine, went off without a hitch. And the ensuing after party at The Sweatshop likewise went off. The show is a collection of self portraits by skaters from all over, including our man Mikey Taylor. Check out the ginormous photo gallery to see what you missed out on. All photos by Ian Jolin-Rasmussen and Color Magazine.

Check out a very little Ronnie Creager from an old POOT ad in the early '90s, when big clothes were all the rage. Thanks to BobShirt for the image...

etnies/Arenas Skate Contest

by: Alex | Monday, May 5, 2008

Last weekend a pretty cool thing happened in Playa Jaco, Costa Rica. Together with the local Arenas Surf & Skate Shop, the Sports & Recreation Committee of Garabito County and local surf shops, the etnies/Arenas Skate Contest closed down the streets and stoked out some kids. Our main man Rodrigo, down in Costa Rica, sent these pics and details:

It all went down on a main street in downtown Jaco, outside the mall.

Local government gave permission to skate on the streets and sidewalks from 3pm-8pm for the contest.

It was really fun watching everyone skate, parents with their baby strollers coming to see kids compete, handing out stickers, posters, prizes and Monster Energy drinks provided by the good folks of Arenas.

The contest was split into three age divisions:

Groms: Boys & girls 6-11 yrs
    Juniors: 11-15 yrs
    Open: 15-19yrs

Pretty amazed that although the final stop of the 2007/2008 CNS (Circuito Nacional de Surf) was going on simultaneously down the street at Hotel Terrazas del Pacifico, we still had a crowd of at least 250 spectators on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Thanks goes out to the Costa Rica riders Cristian Rivera, Rodolfo Castro, Simon Flores, Daniel Chacon and Lou Calderon who all helped with setting up the course, judging the contest and hooking up the local DJ with some great hip hop tracks to set the mood.

Thanks to local municipality who donated a fully covered basketball court for skating, plus money for ramps.

Thanks to all of the people invloved in putting this event together....Costa Rica ST Family, Charlie from Arenas, Pablo Brademan local sport council committee and Maurcio Mora for all the free Monster drinks.

Let's keep it up boys, Playa Jaco needs to keep kids busy in the water or on the skateboard and away from drugs!!!

All the best,

Rodrigo
